The Ethiopian Roads Authority has signed a contract agreement for construction of four road construction projects.

The Ethiopian Roads Authority has signed a contract agreement for construction of four road construction projects. The Projects signed on the day include Koshe-Mito-Worabe, Gambella – Abobo – Gog – Dima. Lot II Pungido-Gog-Gillo River, Gishen Junction, Gonji-Kolela (Kore – Addis Alem) road projects. The total construction cost for these four road projects is over 4.8 billion birr having the total length of 169 km. The full construction cost is financed by the Government of Ethiopia.

1. Koshe-Mito-Worabe Design and Build Road Project: it has a total length of 72.91 km to be constructed on asphalt concrete level and is approximately 10 meters width in rural section including shoulder of the road, 21meters width in Woreda towns and 22.5 meters wide in zonal towns. In addition, the construction will include minor and major drainage structures. Yencomad Construction plc. won the bid and signed a contract agreement with ERA for a contract amount of ETB 1,850,695,155.03 (One Billion Eight Hundred Fifty Million Six Hundred Ninety Five Thousand One Hundred Fifty Five and Cents 3/100). The construction of the road will be completed in three years.

2. Gambella – Abobo – Gog – Dima. Lot II Pungido-Gog-Gillo River: it has a total length of 72.91 km to be constructed on asphalt concrete level and is approximately 10 meters width in rural section including shoulder of the road, 21meters width in Woreda towns and 22.5 meters wide in zonal towns. In addition, the construction will include minor and major drainage structures. China Railway Seventh Group Co., Ltd, won the bid and signed a contract agreement with ERA for a contract amount of ETB 1,342,000,000.00 (One Billion Three Hundred Forty Two Million). The construction of the road will be completed in three years.

3. Gishen Junction Design and Build Road Project: This road project comprises 14 km main road, 1.56km link road and 1.8 km spur, and will be built at asphalt concrete level, and will have four parking lots having a total area of 131 thousand square meters. On average, the road will have 12.5 m – 18m width including shoulder, sidewalk and parking. Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation has won the bid and signed a Contract for Birr 1,316,700,000.00 (One Billion Three Hundred Sixteen Million Seven Hundred Thousand only) and will be completed in two and half years.

4. Gonji-Kolela (Kore – Addis Alem) Road Work Project: This project has a total length of 10.74 km and to be built on asphalt concrete level and is approximately 10 meters wide in rural section, including shoulder and 21.5 meters in width in Woreda towns. In addition, the construction will include minor and major drainage structures. Amhara Road Construction Works Enterprise won the bid and signed a contract agreement with ETB 333,027,799.74 (Three Hundred Thirty-Three Million Twenty Seven Thousand Seven Hundred Ninety-Nine) and it  will be completed in one and half years.  Apart from the safety of cars, the construction of the roads greatly reduces transportation problems by reducing the time spent in the past. When the roads are completed, they will be able to bring a variety of agricultural products from the center to the local traders and help farmers to market their agricultural products without difficulty, thus contributing to the economic and social development of local communities and Woredas.

The Ethiopian Roads Authority Director General, Ato Habtamu Tegegn, stated that it will closely monitor and support the construction process to complete these road projects within the contract time and quality. Management of the contractors who won the bid promised to complete the road construction projects with the specified quality and on time. The authority urged all stake holders’ especially local communities, government bodies and all road users to cooperate for the successful implementation of the projects.
